One of the first questions a lot of coaches, recruits, and supporters have asked me after I was named the Head Coach here at Lipscomb is, "What will you do on offense?" I typically reply, "we'll run motion."
I've noticed that motion means a lot of things to a lot of different people. Many coaches reply, " I couldn't run motion, because we can't control who's going to shoot, etc." So, I want to share a few thoughts about our motion and why we will teach the motion concepts to our team.
SIMPLICITY--is the number one reason we teach motion offense. We want to as Coach Meyer often says, "Simplify, Simplify, Teach & Simplify". All defenses can be effectively attacked with our same principles.
FUNDAMENTALS--motion allows us more time to teach fundamentals which are key to any offensive system: Passing & Receiving, Ballhandling, Cutting & Screening, Rebounding & Shooting"
TEAM PLAY--Ultimately our individual and team offense can only be good if we: believe in ourselves and our teammates, play aggressively with balance and control, learn the basic principles and apply them and develop our individual skills.
